What a great compilation series! What a great label! These semi-legit releases collect some very rare psychedelic, beat, mod & pop 45's & LP tracks & puts them all together in 1 beautiful & affordable package. The LP's (20 in all) new usually run about 14 bucks. Used I have seen them as low as $5.95. (Amoeba Music, Berkeley.) The CD's are a different story. While there are only 6 in the series they contain almost all of the 20 LP's tracks. They are only available as imports from England right now & don't look like they are going to find domestic distribution as they have been this way for some time now. New they run $19 - $22 dollars depending where you are & they don't hit the shelves used as any geeky record store clerk would probably snap these up from a trade the minute they hit the counter. (I know I have......) I have never seen them all in one place before as they are getting to be hen's teeth now a days but managed to collect them in bits & pieces over time. Scored some at Jerry's Records in Pennsylvania. Found some others in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Encore Recordings & still more at Amoeba Music In Berkeley, CA. Even got a couple from My Mind's Eye in Lakewood, OH. as well as the now defunct Platterpuss Records. (Was in Lakewood, OH.) Highlights of this set are many & the sound quality is very solid. While you can tell most if not all have been transfered from vinyl the transfer has been done in a very professional manner w/ much care taken in preserving the original sound. No remastering has been applied which is fine by me as records should sound like records. Leave the clean & pristine CD sound for all those Britney Spears discs. This is psychedelic rock & should sound as such. Dark, murky & engulfed in the haze of time.

Even the artwork is quality as you can see below. The covers truly represent what is contained on each slab o' wax. Here are a few examples..........

ADDENDUM: looks like in 2003 they were issued as a limited edition 20 CD set on the label Past & Present. But even that is gone into the ether...............
